5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indoxylcholine phosphate is used as highly specific chromogenic substrate for PC-PLC（phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase）yielding a blue precipitate upon cleavage. It is especially useful for the isolating and identifying presumptive colonies of Bacillus anthracis.
